Helping

Helping in the library helps to give students ownership.

When they are responsible for checking books in, sorting, and shelving them, they better understand arrangements and locations of materials. They also want to help their peers find and replace items after they know how important it is to be able to find book they have tried to find and couldn’t.

Helping the younger children gives students a sense of accomplishment and pride. Older students have come back with their parents to show them what they do in the library. Being helped, allows the littles to feel more confident as they learn to maneuver through this huge space!
