The Pawn by Steven James

The Pawn by Steven James is an FBI mystery set in NC. Patrick Bower was introduced in a way where I felt he had been the lead in other books, but this was book one in the series. The story line was fast paced and jumped from Bower speaking to the killer speaking. I can usually pin the bad guy down and thought I had him up to the end when it turned out to be someone else. That was clever. James also wove in the story of the Jonestown Cult and made a connection there. Bowers likes to be right, speaks his mind and then wonders why he did. He has relationship issues.

All in all, it was a good book made better because I knew the locale . . .

Maker sure you check out The Rook and The Knight which is releasing August 1, both equally good reads. He is an author on the rise.

Bitsy, I’ve been wanting to find something fiction to read. This sounds good. Might have to give this author a try!
